2017 was the year of skincare for me. Whilst it’s always been something I’ve loved dearly, I feel like it was the year I decided to really take time to focus on my routine, to try new brands and to really educate myself more on the ingredients which has been something I’ve loved doing, and will continue to do this year. Thankfully my skin seems to approve as I’ve seen a huge improvement compared to how it was back at the beginning of the year and for someone that’s battled acne, that’s something I’m incredibly glad to be able to say. To kick off 2018, I thought I’d share some of my skincare favourites from 2017…
Pixi Peel & Polish
Starting off with what may be my absolute favourite from 2018, this enzyme peel from Pixi really is magical. You simply apply it to dry skin, leave it for 2 minutes and then remove it leaving you with soft, smooth and glowing skin – goodbye flaky dry patches. It exfoliates perfectly without drying my skin out and it does leave me with a really natural looking glow to my skin which I absolutely adore.
Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
Would it really be a 2017 favourites if I didn’t mention at least one Glossier item? No it wouldn’t, that was in fact a rhetorical question. The thing I love about this is that it’s basic, but basic in the sense it does it’s job without all the fuss and it works perfectly for my combination skin. I use this in the morning and also the evening as my second cleanser and it leaves my skin feeling incredibly clean, soft, and prepped ready the rest of my skincare routine. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin nor does it break me out, it’s a big yes from me.
The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution
Just like Glossier, The Ordinary became a huge brand in 2017 with their budget friendly products. I’ve tried various products from the brand that have either become holy grail or holy fail. For me this salicylic acid was a big win. Breakouts around my chin/jaw are something I’m always battling (thanks PCOS), but since adding this to my routine I’ve noticed a huge difference in the number I get, which isn’t often anymore, and when I do occasionally get one it’s never as bad as they used to be. This could be a combination of various products, but I do notice a difference when I go without this for a few weeks.
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
My life, my love, my soul. When I’m at home, there’s a 99% chance I’m rocking this dotted somewhere around my face and it’s got to the point my family are so used to seeing me with it on my grandparents even know what it is. You simply dip a cotton bud into the solution resting at the bottom of the bottle then apply it to any spots you may have and leave it to work it’s magic. It helps to really clear, calm and evict pesky spots without being too harsh and I find it doesn’t burn horrifically like some of the spot treatments I’ve tried in the past. I’ve used this for a few years now but I had to mention it in this post as I went through a fair few last year and I’ve actually just ordered a new one as my current ones almost run out!
Avene Soothing Moisture Mask
I first discovered this mask after having a horrific reaction to a spot cream I was prescribed. After giving it a little bit of time to heal without added products because I didn’t want to irritate it more, I saw this mask sat with my skincare which I think came in some kind of monthly subscription box I had at the time. The word ‘soothing’ stood out to my skin and I tried it, since then we’ve been going strong and I’ve repurchased it a few times now. I like to use this on any dry areas either in the evening to sooth them, or in the morning before makeup to help hydrate the areas to avoid the dreaded dry/caked up look.
Nuxe Reve De Miel Lip Balm
Last but not least we have a classic. For years I used any old lip balm because it wasn’t an area I had issues with so I didn’t feel the need to spend much money on one. As I’ve got older my lips have certainly got drier and I picked this up when my lips needed some serious saving after a flight back in April and I’ve used it everyday since. Yes it’s expensive but it’s so worth it, nothing leaves my lips feeling so smooth and hydrated.
