Spring time makeup is my favourite, I love all the new product releases and for me I use the change of season to switch up my everyday makeup routine for a much softer and effortless look. Whilst my makeup routine tends to change everyday as I’m always trying new products, I’ve just found myself going for a similar more muted ‘I woke up like this’ look lately as I always seem to be in such a rush getting ready in the morning, sleep > makeup. As I’ve been working on my skincare routine and clearing up my acne scarring I’ve cut down my base to a much more simpler routine without the heavy coverage and I’m absolutely loving it. It’s crazy how much confidence something a simple as clearing up scaring can boost your confidence!
So starting of with my base and the one product that’s been a real stand out for me is The Ordinary High Spreadability Primer. This brand have been everywhere lately with their affordable skincare products so I obviously had to give them a try… expect a full review once I’ve given them a good try (spoiler: I’m OBSESSED). Although this primer has only been in my life for a few weeks now I can already tell it’s becoming a firm favourite, it leaves my skin feeling so soft and it works wonders for my pores leaving me with a perfectly smooth canvas for foundation. Talking of foundation, the one I’ve found myself reaching for lately has been the YSL Touche Eclat Foundation in B10. I love how glowy this leaves my skin looking whilst still giving me the coverage I want. It leaves my skin looking like skin without the dreaded cakey finish.
As for concealer I’ve been switching between two depending on how much coverage I need (aka how much sleep I lost binge watching Netflix instead of actually sleeping, oops). For days I need the heavy duty stuff I’ll opt for the Nars Soft Matte Concealer in Vanilla, it gives the coverage I want without looking dry or cakey under my eyes like I find some concealers can, it also works wonders at concealing my pesky acne scarring. On days I don’t find I need all the coverage I’ll go for the YSL Touche Eclat, it covers my dark circles whilst adding subtle luminosity to my undereyes.
When it comes to bronzer the one I’ve found myself reaching for everyday since I bought it is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Radiant Bronze Light. This little gem was far from cheap but I just love everything about it. The colour works so well with my skin tone and it blends into the skin like a dream, the Hourglass powders really are something special. As for blush I’ve stuck to a long time favourite of mine, the Too Faced Love Flush in How Deep Is Your Love, the perfect coral pink colour. Of course I can’t forget about the glow, my current favourite is the Elf Studio Highlighting Dewy Drops*, it’s literally magic. Once all my base products are applied I’ll then go in with a generous amount of MAC Fix+, which I’m currently using the limited edition coconut scented one from the Fruity Juicy collection – it smells incredible!
Eyes have been the real basic point for me which is surprising because I’m usually someone that wears about 65 different eyeshadows all blended together like I’m trying to create a piece of art on my eyelids but I’ve just been loving the basic/easy look. My favourite thing to use has been eyeshadow pencils, they’re so easy to use as you simply sweep them over your eyes and blend them out, ta da you now how beautiful glowing eyelids. I love the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Frozen Quartz and the Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil in Caramel Rage. If I fancy adding something extra I’ll add a pigment to my eyelid, you can’t beat the Urban Decay Moondust Palette. As for mascara I’ve been loving the Maybelline Push Up Drama Mascara, it adds the perfect amount of length and volume and I love how thick it makes my lashes look.
Lastly we have lips, now I’m a nude lip kinda girl and my lip choices show that. I try to venture into brighter colours but I just can’t deal with the commitment so I tend to go for the easy option as I know I don’t have to worry about nude lipstick being all over my teeth every 25 seconds. My number 1 choice has been Benefit Posie Balm, it’s a tinted lip balm so it hydrates my lips whilst adding a subtle hint of colour. Another lip product I can’t get enough of is the MAC Lip Scrubtious in Fruit of Passion, it’s the best lip scrub I’ve used and I love how soft and moisturised it leaves my lips feeling, I couldn’t recommend it more.
On days I feel like going for an actual lipstick I’ll opt for either one of my favourite beauty discoveries of 2017 (I know, BIG statement!) the Tarte Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit or the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine. The formala of the Tarte Lip Paints is incredible, I absolutely love them and I already need more colours in my life. If I want to add a bit of gloss I just apply some of the Maybelline Color Drama Lip Paint in Stripped Down on top, I have these in a few different colours and I love the formula of these! They’re a subtle gloss without leaving you with the dreaded sticky lips that no matter how hard you try, you always seem to end up with your hair stuck to your face.
So those are some of the products I’ve been loving for Spring, what are some of your favourites?
