Nars will forever be one of my favourite makeup brands, everything I’ve tried from the brand so far I’ve loved. When I first heard about the new Soft Matte Complete Concealer I think my heart skipped a beat so of course I had to order it as soon as it launched on the Space NK website. I’m a massive fan of Nars bases with Sheer Glow being one of my favourite foundations and the Radiant Creamy Concealer being a holy grail (I’m sure you’re sick of me constantly declaring my love for it) so you can imagine how excited I was when I heard about this new release.
I’ve been using it for a good few weeks now so I thought it was finally time I shared my views and let’s just say this concealer is my new best friend, I’m absolutely in love with it! I was really hoping I’d love it but I didn’t think I’d be as impressed as I actually am, this little gem will always hold a special place in my heart from now onwards. I’ve yet to actually find a fault with it, I know I’m just as surprised as you are!
Concealer is an absolute must for me, I use it everyday without fail. I suffer from dark under eye circles, acne scarring with the occasional blemish as well as redness especially round my nose (as shown in the before and after pictures below). Over the years I feel like I’ve tried an endless variety of concealers from drugstore to highend to help me achieve the perfect base. My personal favourite has always been cream concealers, such as MAC Studio Finish or the Kryolan Dermacolor, as I find them a lot higher in coverage compared to liquid concealers.
The Soft Matte Complete Concealer an oil free, long wearing, full coverage yet natural looking concealer that smooths, blurs and conceals imperfections. Just by adding either ‘smoothing’ or ‘blurring’ into a product description and you’ve sold it to me instantly. It’s also said to have some long term benefits such as reducing the appearance of wrinkles and pores with collagen boosting peptides and hyularionic acid as well as providing the skin with vitamin A, C and E but I feel like I haven’t been using it long enough to comment on those.

Formula: As it’s a cream concealer I was worried that it might be too firm and hard to blend like some other cream concealers I’ve tried but it’s actually really soft and easy to apply. It glides onto the skin really smoothly and really doesn’t require much effort as far as blending goes. It works well with both a brush and a Beauty Blender and I find both methods seem to give pretty much the same application, I tend to apply it with a brush and then blend it out with my Beauty Blender.
Finish: It applies matte to the skin but it’s not the “help me my skin needs moisturiser asap” type of matte. As it’s matte I was worried what it would be like under my eyes but I gave it a go and I’m so SO impressed. Cream concealers and my undereye area just don’t go together, I’m usually much more of a liquid type of girl for the undereyes. I used it under my eyes in the picture above and you can see what a good job it did, that’s even without corrector.
Coverage: This is certainly full coverage yet one of the most natural looking full coverage concealers I’ve come across. It covers my dark circles, blemishes, scarring and rosacea perfectly in one layer, something I find rare in a concealer!
Lasting power: I haven’t had any issues with the lasting power, I get a full days wear out of it and thankfully it doesn’t seem to break down or crack on my combination skin. I can apply this in the morning and it still looks the same 10+ hours later, even under my eyes.
As for how it compares to the Radiant Creamy Concealer they’re obviously fairly different being two different forms of concealer. I use the shade Vanilla in both and the colour is exactly the same. I find the Soft Matte Concealer to be a little more full coverage and more matte looking on the skin as well as more blurring, it just seems to look a bit more flawless especially in pictures. Price wise they’re both £23 but the Radiant Creamy Concealer contains 0.22oz compared to the Soft Matte Complete Concealer containing 0.21oz. There’s hardly anything in it but I do feel as if I use less of the Soft Matte Concealer as the coverage is higher.
Whilst it would be hard to choose between the two as I love them both dearly, I think I’d have to go with the Soft Matte Complete Concealer! I’m all about that full coverage yet natural look so this is perfect for me. It just ticks all the boxes and I can’t rave about it enough.
It’s official, I’m in love. Have you tried this concealer yet?
