Photo Diary: A Weekend In London

On Thursday me and my family headed into London for a little city break. We’ve had a few nights away booked for a while now so I was glad the time finally came around as London is one of my favourite places and we were all in need of a little break. Besides the amount of shopping I intended on doing, the main reason for going was for Comic Con, an event full of all things comic/cartoon/super hero that my brother wanted to go to.

When it came to booking a hotel we wanted to be close to the centre of London whilst still being within a good distance from the Comic Con venue. We chose to stay at the Park Plaza Westminster and honestly it was one of the fanciest hotels I’ve ever stayed in – I felt like a right mess checking in in my not so glam travel clothes surrounded by guys in suits and bow ties!

The hotel was absolutely beautiful, we had a studio room meaning we had a bedroom, bathroom, living room and a little kitchen which was perfect for the four of us. The location was ideal, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben were clearly visiable from the room and the River Thames was only a minute walk down the road. Everything was so perfect that I can’t fault it, I’ll certainly be staying again.

On Friday we woke up early and headed over to the ExCel Centre. To get there we decided to get the tube from Waterloo over the North Greenwich (the o2 arena) and get on the Emirates Air Line across the Thames. I really enjoyed the experience as being an aviation geek I love all things Emirates and the view was a great photo opportunity. The journey is only about 10 minutes and I’d really recommend it.

As for Comic Con, it was actually really fun. Admittedly I didn’t have any idea what half the things were (my brother and sister probably hated my constant questions), when we got to the Hello Kitty area I almost died as me and Hello Kitty are on serious bff terms. We stayed for a few hours and then decided to head back to the hotel as we all needed a rest – London is so tiring!

That afternoon we took a trip down to the hotel pool and luckily it was rather empty so we had the pool to ourselves most the time. I’ve not been swimming for so many years as I’ve never felt comfortable enough to go around in a swimming costume but I felt fine in there so overcoming a big fear of mine was a big plus. The hotel had an incredible spa area that had such a luxurious feel to it, I could have stayed for ages!

After going back to the room and getting ready for the evening we went over to Covent Garden to do some shopping and to get some dinner. Covent Garden is my favourite for makeup shopping so I was in heaven – expect lots of hauls to come, I’m weak and it was makeup heaven. After visiting all the shops we wanted it was time for food and we went to Maxwell’s. Before going vegetarian last year it was one of my favourite restaurants but the veggie options sucked and the burger wasn’t great (#foodtalkwithsamm) but the pudding was a whole other level, Freakshakes are my new addiction.

After getting back to Waterloo we chilled in the hotel room then went to sleep – I know, it’s a wild life we live! The following morning we got up and ready to check out (my suitcase is now packed full and ready to explode, I went a bit shopping crazy), went for some breakfast and took a little walk along the Thames making the most of the time we had left before heading home.

It was such a lovely break and I loved spending time with my family. Although this post isn’t my usual type of beauty related rambles I love sharing more personal posts and one day I’ll look back on this post and remember the lovely time that I had, this is more like a virtual diary entry but hey we’re just gonna role with it.

Hope you’re all doing well!
