Am I sat here writing this post in my pyjamas wishing I was on a plane to somewhere exotic? YES.
Going on holiday is literally one of my favourite things to do. I love travelling, exploring new places and spending a week or two around the pool relaxing! I also love flying, and the whole airport experience. I have a real plane geek side to me, I love aeroplanes! Back when I went to college, I actually studied beauty therapy with the aim of becoming an in flight beauty therapist. Samm’s life ramble over.
But I’m actually kind of cheating with this post, unfortunately I’m not going away this year- as much as I dream! We’re hoping to go away early next year *fingers crossed*. I’ve been on quite a few holidays so I’ve got a fairly good idea on what products I like to pack. I think I’m actually staying in London for a couple of days next month, so I’m classing this as a whats in my holiday/travel makeup bag.
My makeup bag is from Skinnydip London, which I brought in my local Topshop. I really didn’t need anymore makeup bags, but this one was too cute not to buy! I love the colour combinations, and with how unlucky I am and the bones I’ve broke, I found it rather amusing! The sunglasses are from Quay Australia, which I got from ASOS. Cat eye glasses are my favourites, I find they suite my face shape well. I’ve become obsessed with this sunglasses brand recently!
Oh, and the necklace in the top picture is from Claires, incase anyone’s wondering. I haven’t really been in there since my younger teen years, and I remember the gimmicky jewellery which I always seemed to beg my mum to buy- 13 year old Samm was often found rocking gingerbread man shaped earrings!
Even when I’m on holiday, I still like to wear a bit of makeup. Even if I’m just laying around the pool, I feel more confident and more me with just a bit of concealer and filled in brows. As for the evenings, that when I like to put on a bit more makeup as we often head out for drinks or to watch a show.
This is an absolute must have for me now. I’ve raved about it a few times on my blog, and I’m still loving it. It’s so refreshing and can be used to set makeup, moisturise and soothe the skin, and give a radiant glow. Think MAC Fix+, but that actually makes a difference to your skin. I love to use this when the heat gets too much for me, it really helps to cool the skin. I’ve actually converted my mum to using this, and she hasn’t used her Fix+ since.
I’m one of those people that only has to step out into the sun for 3 seconds before turning into a lobster *sigh*. So I won’t ramble on about the importance of sun cream, I’m sure you all know. I prefer to use a cream thats made for the face, like this one from Boots that fragrance free, hypoallergenic (unlikely to cause a reaction) and fragrance free. I put it on before my foundation, allowing it to absorb for a couple of minutes before applying foundation. I like to use an SPF30 on my face and SPF50 on my body.
This is my holy grail primer. It’s a beautiful product that really adds a glow to the skin whilst smoothing and prepping the skin for foundation application. This would have to be in my holiday/travel makeup bag!
This is a product I’ve been repurchasing for what feels like forever. I’ve brought a bottle on numerous different holidays I’ve been on over the years. I know I can rely on this foundation, especially when my skins on the drier side. Its so light on the skin, and still provides a nice amount of coverage.
Although this is actually a powder foundation, I don’t find the coverage enough to use alone so I use this as a setting powder. It works great at helping makeup last, and gives an almost blurred effect to pores, I bloody love this powder! Holy grail.
I’ve been repurchasing this concealer for ages, it’s great. It works well on blemishes and the eye area so it’s defo coming in my travel bag!
This handy product contains a bronzer, highlighter and blush in one handy compact making it perfect for travelling as it’s saving you space. I love this product, all three products are beautiful and look amazing when used individually or paired together.
I class this as a fancy tinted lip balm. Its moisturising on the lips whilst adding a slight pop of colour. It’s an easy product to wear, meaning that when it fades you can’t really tell as it’s only a really subtle tint it gives to the lips. Oh, and I’m aware that four lip products may seem a bit extreme, but I like to have a choice depending on what I’m wearing or how I’m feeling that day. Some people probably take more options!
This is my favourite lipstick ever, so obviously it would have to come away with me! It’s a “my lips but better” colour, so it’s easy to wear without having to worry about it fading as much as I would a bright colour.
I got this for Christmas last year from the MAC holiday collection, hence why it’s in a different packaging. It’s a soft coral, and being a Cremesheen its not too pigmented and feels almost glossy on the lips. I think this is such a beautiful colour, and doesn’t come off too bright on the lips.
Although this has only recently came into my life back when I went to the IMATS, it’s already become a staple for me. I’m really not a lipgloss person, so I was surprised I love it this much. It’s not too sticky, feels comfortable to wear, and to my surprise this stuff lasts a long time on the lips! I was expecting it to disappear after about an hour like most glosses, but no! After a good 5 hours it was still going strong- super impressed!
As much as I love my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, it’s expensive and I wouldn’t want to risk it getting damaged in my suitcase. That’s why I’d choose this Maybelline palette as I won’t be too heartbroken if it was too smash or go missing. This is a great neutral drugstore palette, and the shadows are surprisingly soft, pigmented and easy to blend.
This is my favourite mascara. I usually buy the regular version, but in the heat you want something thats going to last so I always opt for a waterproof mascara. But no, I wouldn’t recommend diving in the pool with this on, don’t take the waterproof part that far- I don’t think many mascaras reach that level. But this doesn’t transfer and lasts all day on my lashes without flaking or transferring around my eye. It’s not too hard to remove, always opt for an oil based eye makeup remover when it comes to waterproof mascaras.
I love the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade, but when you’re away the last thing you want to be doing is spending lots of time perfecting your brows- at least I don’t anyway! I hate the natural shape of my brows so I fill and shape them everyday, and the Brow Wiz is a handy pencil that lasts! It’s defo worth the price!
I normally don’t even bother with eye liner when I’m away, but I like to bring one just incase I decide I want to use one- typical Samm has to be prerared for various makeup situations!
These are so easy to wear. You can either wear them alone to add a pop of colour, or as a base under shadow. I chose two colours, just incase I decide to switch up the looks!
Wow, I feel like I’ve well and truly rambled my heart out in this post. And yes, I’m fully aware that it may be a large amount of makeup to take, but I like to have options. I’m a blogger and trained as a makeup artist so I like to experiment, even when I’m melting in the sun!
If you’re off on holiday this year, I’m incredibly envious, have a lovely time!
